Target Audience: All

Presentation Abstract: The goal of this workshop is to demonstrate how to intervene             with youth in a way that is effective.  The Anger Management (feelings expressions) Program that will be presented is designed to teach alternative ways of expressing anger (other than violence or aggression).  The presentation will address false beliefs about anger and teach how to recognize anger.  The presenter will demonstrate specific interventions that can be used to express anger, instead of violence or aggressive communication.  The presenter will offer helpful communication hints to use in everyday interactions in order to prevent situations from escalating.  Finally, participants will be asked to complete a worksheet that can be used in their work.  This worksheet will be reviewed and discussed.  The presenter will encourage audience participation by utilizing rewards.  This will demonstrate how rewards can be used to elicit client participation in the program.  Participants will leave this experiential workshop with a firm grasp of the concepts taught and useful tools for teaching these concepts to others.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. What is anger, how do we understand it? Participants will learn a definition to use in order for clients to be able to analyze the feeling.  False beliefs about anger will be examined as well.
  2. If I know I explode but I do not know what else to do, can you help me?  Participants will be taught effective techniques to teach clients to express their anger in nonviolent, acceptable ways.
  3. If you cannot hold someone's attention, they will not learn to change.  Participants will learn fun ways to present information so that clients learn, retain and are able to put the techniques to use.
